Training:
Tommy started his career starting colts and training Reining Horses; he specializes in Colt Starting, Rope Horses, Cowhorses, Reiners and Cutters, but accepts all ages, breeds and disciplines into his program. Our business has recently made a move more towards rope horses, but we decided to keep “Cowhorses” in the name and in the product. Why? A Cowhorse, in our opinion, is a horse you want to go catch in the morning; he can do a full days’ work without a tie down or let him balance on it and he’ll take you to the pay window. A horse you can sort cattle on… rope, doctor, brand, he can do anything that keeps the ranch running. A horse that – after a long week’s work – is still your first choice to go enjoy on the weekend. A Cowhorse has the ability to do a job with a cow, and do it well. He will let you move his parts and can maneuver in any way that’s needed to control a cow – whether that’s in the herd, down the fence, or with a rope in hand. Tommy also has proven very successful at building barrel horses – with horses he’s trained winning some big events like Fort Smith. Tommy uses Dorrence-style colt starting techniques and takes horses in training of any age, breed or discipline. He is also available to give clinics at home or away. He has trained successful, Ranch Versatility Horses, Jumpers, Dressage Horses, Eventing Horses, Pleasure Horses, Driving Horses, and Sorter/Penners, just to name a few. He is also excellent at reforming problem horses.
Training includes riding by Tommy 5-6 days a week, feed and full board: covered outdoor pen or barn stall, daily stall cleaning, grooming, feeding any necessarily grain/special rations/supplements/medications, blanketing/fly sheet/fly mask (if required) and knowledgeable eyes looking at your horse night and day.
Breeding:
TTCH stands for world champion CowHorse Famoso Starlight at stud; we offer mare care and live cover or shipped semen. Famoso Starlight has lifetime earnings of approximately $80,000 in NRCHA, NCHA, team roping and ranch rodeo. 5 panel negative. He’s also homozygous black so he will never produce a red-based foal. His babies are athletic, good-minded and versatile as well as being big, stout, and durable enough for any job – be it on the ranch or in the arena. He is also an excellent choice for correcting leg conformation, adding bone and shortening back length. Check out his page and see more about Famoso Starlight.
Showing:
Tommy shows client horses in a variety of disciplines, most frequently in the Cowhorse and Reining but he has also shown horses in other events.
Lessons:
Tommy coaches ropers and riders of all levels. He’s great with box issues and getting the most out of your horse to better your runs. He’s available to coach non-pro and/or youth riders towards success in the show pen, and as gives lessons for all types of riding. Whether you want to rope, show Cowhorses, compete in any other disciplines – or you just want to be a better horseman – you are welcome to join us for a group or private lesson with Tommy. Private lessons are great, but Tommy feels that having several people taking lessons at once generally facilitates an effective learning environment for students too; you have the opportunity to watch others who are at a similar level. We can make many days and times work to fit your needs. Contact us for more info.
Clinics:
Tommy has given many successful clinics across the U.S. and is available at home or away.

Apprenticeship Program:
We offer our home and arena to up-and-coming horse enthusiasts from anywhere in the world. We have a paid working student option and an unpaid apprenticeship position to an individual for a course in equine entrepreneurship.
Option 1: Student pays $1000/month; this includes use of our equipment, room and board for the student, as well as board for one horse, and can pay for additional horses. The student will be required to help with saddling, washing and exercising horses, but is NOT required to clean stalls or feed horses beyond their own (if they choose to bring any). Student will have the opportunity to learn about cowhorse, cutting, roping, colt breaking, problem solving, farriery, dentistry, veterinary skills, breeding/horse husbandry, lesson giving, etc. Money-making opportunities include lesson giving, taking in client horses, farrier work, etc. once proven that the student can do a good job. There are also horse sale/partnership opportunities.
Option 2: Student pays nothing. Student is required to clean stalls and feed horses to cover the cost of tuition. Room and board for the student and board for one horse is included and can pay for additional horses. Student will have the opportunity to learn about roping, cowhorse, cutting, colt breaking, problem solving, farriery, dentistry, veterinary skills, breeding/horse husbandry, lesson giving, etc. Money-making opportunities include lesson giving, taking in client horses, farrier work, etc once proven that the student can do a good job. There are also horse sale/partnership opportunities. The ideal applicant is ambitious, knowledge-hungry, and realistic. We prefer not local, but all applicants will be considered. Work ethic, positive attitude and common sense is a must! Repeat, common sense is a must. Upper level horsemanship and technique is our focus. The person who is going to get the most out of the experience is someone who has a good horse knowledge and foundation, for example an up-and-coming horse trainer who realizes they can’t make it without help. I can only present the door of opportunity, it’s up to you to open it… so this can be as beneficial to you as you make it.
There is no time limit, you can stay as long want, but we won’t accomplish much in less than 90 days. Contact us to apply.
